<hi style=afpcap>The first monoplane fighter produced for the Army Air Corps was the Boeing P-26 'Peashooter', which was also the first in its class to be constructed with an all metal wing and fuselage. The design evolved in 1931 as a joint venture between Boeing and the AAC, although the project was financed entirely by Boeing initially. Once the trails were successfully completed the Army purchased the three prototypes. A contract was issued soon afterwards for 111 P-26As, although this was increased to 136 before production commenced. The P-26 was stationed in the continental United States as well the Panama Canal Zone and Hawaii.</hi>
